Lila’s Journey

In 1866, sixteen-year-old Lila Bonner works at a stagecoach stop on the Santa Fe Trail. Forced to make a life-changing decision that leaves her frightened and alone, she receives help from a kind-hearted stranger heading west and reaches Council Grove, Kansas, hoping to build a new life. With determination and strength she didn’t know she had, Lila faces the challenge of basic survival, Indian unrest between the Kaw and Cheyenne tribes, and deals with a ravaging epidemic that leads her to seek help in an unlikely place. As she develops into a capable young woman, an unspeakably evil plot threatens her life as well as a blossoming romance. Her fate hangs in the balance between the person who betrayed her, the man she loves, and the woman she’s become.
