Wintering with WWW: Carmen Peone

Storytelling Out Loud

Getting words on the page can be a tough gig for any writer. Especially when life is already packed with to-do lists, day jobs, and family.

I fought dictating my books for years. Then I listened to several of my writer friends rave about how fast they could write and took a few classes.

At first, telling my story on the page felt weird, and my mind would stop and go like a flighty filly on a first-time trail ride.

I started small, with texts and emails. Then did a few prompts out of a book someone had suggested. (Yes, I’ll share the book with the class.)

The more I practiced, the better I became.

Then one day, I got brave—I mean really brave—and dictated an entire scene. In my office with the door closed. I was the only one home. It was quiet. Safe. Inviting.

You see, dictating doesn’t have to be hard.

It doesn’t have to be scary.

It doesn’t have to be time-consuming.

In fact, none of those things is dictation.

In my wintering journey of Storytelling Out Loud, I can’t wait to show you how this technique can dramatically speed up your writing process.

I’ll show you how to start slow and work up to paragraphs, pages, scenes, and chapters. Before you know it, you too will be equipped to dictate an entire novel.

You’ll discover how easy it is.

Learn what tools you can work with, the ones you may already have at home, and how the method works.

I’ll even show you the reasons a writer should dictate.

And share how to move an idea to a fully spoken first draft with the use of a story scene sheet—Wrangling Your Scenes. Then show you how to take the rough draft and polish it in a few quick minutes.

Yes, it really is this easy.

Of course, you’ll fumble around like a colt learning to stand up for the first time. But that’s okay. We all struggle at first. But remember, like anything else, the more you practice, the better you become.

I promise!

By the end of the session, you’ll know how to write faster, think more clearly, and unlock a natural storytelling flow so you can dictate your entire novel in a lot less time than it would take to peck it out on a keyboard—even if you’re a seasoned typist.
