The Women Writing the West conference will be here in just about three months: October 15–17 in Scottsdale, Arizona. We want to encourage you to sign up soon. Why? Because early bird registration ends on June 30, which is a great incentive to pull out your credit card, go to the Conference tab on the WWW website, and fill out that form.
The fun starts the Thursday before the conference. You can choose to hop onto a bus in the morning and go to the Western Spirit museum in Scottsdale. Some fascinating special exhibits will be up during the conference, including “Still in the Saddle: A New History of the Hollywood Western,” and “Fire of Ages,” a display of historic and modern indigenous pottery from across the Southwest.
In the afternoon Arizona Poet Laureate Dr. Laura Tohe will present a workshop titled, “The Poems, Stories, and Songs In and Around Me.” This is sure to be a fascinating presentation.

You’ll need to sign up for both events on the registration form. The bus trip to the museum is free and attendees will just pay the regular museum admission fee: $28.00 for adults, $25.00 for age 65 and over. The bus has 27 seats so get your spot now. The fee for Dr. Tohe’s workshop is $30.00 for members, and $35.00 for non-members.
And finally, you can sign up to get a Roundtable Critique with an agent or editor, a very popular pre-conference activity. The fee for a critique is $35.00 for members, and $45.00 for nonmembers.
And speaking of membership, if you aren’t a WWW member, we encourage you to sign up to take advantage of the price breaks for registration and special programs.
If you have any questions about the conference, send an email to Co-chairs Stephanie West Allen and Lynn Downey.
